DATABASE MANAGEMENT AND INFORMATIONSECURITY MANAGEMENT SKILLS POSSESSED BYOTM EDUCATORSIN SOUTH-SOUTH NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES: A PREREQUISITE FOR ENHANCED JOB DELIVERY

The study was carried out to determine the Database management and informationsecurity Management skills possessed by OfficeInformationand Management Educators forenhanced job delivery in Universitiesin South-South Nigeria. Two research questions wereraised and answered while two hypotheses were formulated and testedat 0.05 level ofsignificance.The study employed the descriptive survey design. The population for the studyconsisted of 147 Office Information and Management Educators in Universities in South-SouthNigeria. There was no sampling as the population was of manageable size. A 56-item, 5-pointLikert rating scale questionnaire titled “Database management and information securitymanagement skills possessed by Office Technology Management Educators for Enhanced JobDelivery. Questionnaire in Universities in South-South Nigeria” (DCMCPOIMQ) was used toobtain data from the respondents. The instrument was validated by two experts from Delta stateUniversity of Science and Technology, Ozoro. To determine the validity of the instrument, alphastatistic was applied and a reliability coefficient of 0.86 was obtained. Mean and StandardDeviation were used to analyse all the research questions, while the hypotheses were tested witht-test of independent samples. The findings of the study revealed that Office Information andManagement educators in Universities in South-South Nigeria possessed database ManagementSkills for enhanced job delivery. The study found that there was a significant difference betweenmale and female Office Information and Management educators’ responses with regards to theDatabase management and information security management Skills possessed by OfficeInformation and Management educators. The study also found that there was a significantdifference between the Database management and information security Management ofexperienced and less experienced Office Information and Management educators in Universitiesin South-South Nigeria. The study concluded that Office Information and Managementeducators in Universities in South-South Nigeria have high competency levels in Databasemanagement and low competency levels in information security. It was therefore recommendedamong others that, Senate and School boards in various Universities should as a matter ofresponsibility mobilise the Office Information and Management educators in their institutionsfor skill development and update in ICT especially in the area of information securitymanagement.
