Abstract

Human rights model of disability provides a more recent approach to issues related to
persons with disabilities. Unlike previous models that mainly viewed disability from other
approaches (including the medical, social, and moral), the human rights model of disability
provides a holistic approach to matters that relates to the rights of persons with disabilities.
Therefore, this paper seeks to understand the human rights model of disability in relation
to states’ obligations for persons with disabilities particularly in the field of employment.
This essay argues that the new model of disability has serious implications for states in the
realization of employment for persons with disabilities.
