Abstract

Summary

This reflective practitioner case study explores how school leadership can effectively addressequity, innovation, and diversity within the complex context of twenty-first-century education, using Ibadan International School (IIS), an International Baccalaureate World School inNigeria, as a focal case. Drawing on over eleven years of professional experience, the studyexamines how values-driven leadership fostered inclusive learning environments, equitableaccess, and innovative practices, particularly highlighting IIS’s successful transition to remotelearning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Situating these practices within Nigeria’s broadereducational landscape of structural inequalities, underfunding, and infrastructural constraints, the paper is grounded in Transformational and Culturally Responsive Leadership frameworksand integrates relevant literature, methodological reflections, contextual analysis, and practicalrecommendations. It concludes that effective school leadership in Nigeria transcendsadministrative competence, functioning as moral, relational, and context-sensitive workcapable of transforming schools into spaces of equity, resilience, and human possibility despitesystemic challenges.
