Much Ado About Renewable Energy: Roadmap Towards A Healthy Environment In Nigeria

The future is equipped with green, sustainable, renewable, and reliable energy. It is expedient to tap into the copious available resources to build a green economy that will preserve society. This article seeks to promote renewable energy as a key to securing a healthy and climate friendly future for present and future generations. This is achievable through the instrumentality of laws. It examines the negative consequences of overdependence on fossil fuels and the prospects of energy generation through alternative renewable sources. Examples are solar, biomass, hydro, and wind. All of these are available in Nigeria. This paper argues that renewable energy development will promote sustainable development and guarantee a healthy and cleanenvironment. This article posits that if the government and stakeholders took steps towards ensuring that policies on renewable energy generation are given adequate legal backing, it could encourage foreign investment in clean renewable energy in Nigeria. In conclusion, a formidable legal structure backed by stringent enforcement is needed to strengthen the rising potential of renewable energy. It is therefore recommended that intentional efforts be made to invest in renewable energy to meet the already high demands for energy.
