Intervention of NGOs for Sustainable Community Development in Ilorin-South Local Government Area of Kwara State
Summary
Sustainable community development of not new and it enhances theidea of serving the present need of community people and meeting theneed of generation unborn in that same communities. The interventionof Non-governmental Organizations and their contributions cannot beover emphasised. That is why this paper is trying to examine theintervention of Non-governmental organizations for sustainablecommunity development in Ilorin-South. The data collected from thisstudy were quantified using descriptive statistic, mean and standarddeviation for the research questions. The findings show that there aremany private, social and religious owned NGOs in the local governmentarea of study. The findings also revealed that the role of NGOs improvesthe sustainable community development projects in the area of study aswell. The result also revealed that NGOs fund the sustainable communitydevelopment projects and that there are many NGOs in Ilorin-SouthLocal Government Area. It was also established that NGOs play animportant roles in improving sustainable community development projects that available in their communities for the betterment of theirliving. The paper recommended that NGOs should continue to intervenein community development services for the social, economic, welfareand development of peoples’ communities. Also, NGOs should focustheir interventions on activities that would enable them to reduce themarginalised and disadvantaged sectors of the communities to improvethe circumstances of the communities’ livelihood for sustainablecommunity development in their communities.
