Eradicating Examination Malpractices in Nigeria: Theatre/ Drama as a Panacea

Examination malpractice or academic dishonesty is a major challenge toexamination and examination administration all over the world. It is anepidemic in Nigeria. This affects the standards of education, the worth ofcertificates issued at the end of the examinations and the integrity of Nigerianeducational institutions’ products. Examination malpractices’ impacts andimplications go deeper into the society’s core and last for a very long timewhile its consequences are debilitating and all-encompassing. As a resultof these factors, there have been many efforts and measures taken to tacklethis menace but all seemed not to have been able to tame this monstrousexamination malpractice bogey. This paper explores the possibility ofthinking outside of the box in tackling this problem. It suggests using theatre/drama as means of combating this challenge. This will be done through thevehicle of schools’ drama, television drama, drama texts and feature films.
