The Nexus between Peace, Human Rights and Development in the Promotion of People’s Human Rights in Zimbabwe Bothwell Chitengu Ph.D Candidate College of Business, Peace, Leadership and Gover

This paper seeks to clearly explain some crucial links between peace, humanrights and development. The central argument is that there has been a recentdiscovery of the strong link between peace, human rights and development whichhas to be exploited for effective human development to be realised. The majorfindings were that there is a strong dialectical nexus between peace, human rightsand development. The central conclusions were that the article constructed a theoryof ‘positive peace, participation and human rights’, which takes into accountpeace, human rights and development in order to promote the quality of humanrights. Furthermore, the article argues that the absence of effective institutions topromote and respect human rights may lead to a conflict trap and resultantly anupsurge of physical violence. The findings were that there is need to take intoaccount the linkages between peace and human rights which are crucial in theimprovement of the quality of human rights for the people. The policy implicationsderiving from this research were that there is dire need to integrate the threepillars of peace, development and human rights to reduce conflict and promotestability in societies.
