Abstract

Given the grave consequences of COVID-19, a lot of studies were conducted by scholars of different disciplinary.
backgrounds to find out ways of containing the spread of this deadly disease. However, most of these studies rather
generalized the effect of COVID-19 on the nation’s economy. As a departure from other academic, this paper aims to
discuss the debilitating effects of COVID-19 on Nigeria’s educational system. Documentary method of data collection
and social distance theory were used to justify the impact of COVID-19 on educational sector in Nigeria. The paper,
therefore, reveals that the pandemic has adversely affected the educational sector so much that it has retarded the
development of the sector. The paper then concludes that for the educational sector to remain stable and vibrant the
further spread of the pandemic must be curtailed. The paper then recommends among other measure, the prohibition of large gathering of students in lecture rooms and taking Covid-19 vaccine (Astrazenecca Vaccine) as parts of the ways to reduce the spread of the virus. It is believed that if such steps are taken, preservation of human lives would be
guaranteed while a vibrant and robust educational industry would be sustained at the same time in the future.
